Shiny Faces

dropshots1Allie is 6 weeks old and that’s about how long it’s been since my last post.  It’s not that I’ve lacked content, there has been plenty of fodder for faith, repentance, and grace around here.   It has been time and a coherent thought that have eluded me over the last several weeks.   Being up in the middle of the night can  be a wonderful time to meditate on the Lord’s workings.  I’d have loved to share them with you if only I could have remembered in the morning.

One adage that’s come to mind in this busy season i the the great advice, “purpose to smile at your children.”  So simple.  So very simple and so very effectual at communicating a peaceful home.  I could explain it’s wonderful benefits, but you might be better off to just try it.  When you’re kids walk by smile. When 4 people are talking to you at once and you want to give into that tick that always threatens to show you might really go crazy this time, smile.  When the whining won’t stop, smile.  When they’re excited to show you the mud dinner they’ve made with all the real kitchen dishes and silverware, smile.  Let your face shine on your children as the Lord shines his face on you.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26

  1. Besides, smiling helps us see the encouraging signs of creativity in them. After all, we serve a creative God:)
